Pocoapoco Residency Workshop

Location: Pocoapoco, Oaxaca City, Mexico

Date: Fall 2022

Ages: Adults

This workshop was offered at at Pocoapoco, an artist residency and non-profit in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I spent time researching the role of natural color materials within education practices in the region. In this workshop we explored how we relate to the world through color association, nature, and feeling. We made drawings, watercolor paintings, and collages using found natural objects, color paper swatches, and natural pigment paints made from locally sourced materials. The workshop began with a breathing exercise where we made drawings with our eyes closed accompanied by a guided meditation. We then “wrote” our names with objects and color swatches that corresponded to our individual color and material associations.
