Dia Beacon, Artist Educator Program: “Life Cycles in All Things”

The Artist Educator Program (AEP) is a partnership program facilitated by Dia Beacon that pairs artist educators with local Beacon City School District classrooms. I have had the pleasure of working with South Ave. Elementary’s classroom teachers several times in previous iterations of AEP. In this six-session curriculum, titled “Life Cycles in All Things”, students explored key words and ideas such as “change”, “impermanence”, “decomposition”, and “regeneration”, and placed them in context with all entities on this planet. They engaged with this theme by reflecting on their personal experiences, making observations, interacting with artwork, and by engaging in hands-on art making activities.
